Stuttgart There was a world premiere for the birthday: On the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the Porsche sports car brand, the company presented an all-electric concept study.
In the Porsche Museum at the Zuffenhausen headquarters, CEO Oliver Blume unveiled the Porsche Mission X – “a purely electric hypercar that combines efficiency and charging performance like no other electric vehicle before it,” said Blume. The extravagant, flat design of the sports car and the gullwing doors are visually striking. What is technically special is that the battery should be installed behind the seats in the vehicle. So far, battery packs have been installed in the platforms of the cars below the driver.
Porsche presented its last super sports car, the 918 Spyder, in 2013. The hybrid car is still the fastest road-legal vehicle on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife. The Mission X aims to beat that record on the racetrack, this time 100 percent electric.

Work on the electric hypercar is said to have taken about nine months. For Porsche, studies such as the Mission X are crucial in order to set new standards in development, some of which can then also be used in series production. For example, the Mission E concept car presented in 2016 has become the Porsche Taycan, currently Porsche’s only all-electric sports car.
Whether the Mission X will go into series production was left open on Thursday evening by the board of directors led by Oliver Blume. The people from Zuffenhausen also held back when it came to technical details that were too deep.

What is exciting is that the vehicle is equipped with a 900-volt system architecture. This makes very fast loading possible. At the presentation in Stuttgart, Blume said that loading times could be expected to be about twice as fast as with the Taycan.

In addition, the Mission X should have one horsepower for every kilogram of car. However, Porsche did not provide any information on weight or horsepower. Design chief Michael Mauer said at the presentation in Stuttgart: “This car would probably be the trump card in every car quartet.”

According to a statement, the two-seater is around 4.5 meters long and two meters wide. The wheelbase is 2.73 meters and is in line with previous super sports cars such as the Porsche Carrera GT and the 918 Spyder. After the world premiere, the new Mission X will be included in a special exhibition at the Porsche Museum.
