Paris Emmanuel Macron became the first French head of state to win re-election in two decades. The strength of his mandate in his second term now depends on the outcome of the parliamentary elections in June.

In terms of content, Macron wants to focus on strengthening purchasing power in the coming months. Right-wing nationalist Marine Le Pen, who was defeated in the runoff on Sunday, and left-wing populist Jean-Luc Mélenchon also focused heavily on this issue during the election campaign.

Macron is aiming for a “special law for purchasing power” with which he wants, among other things, to adjust pensions to high inflation. He could oblige companies with good business results to transfer part of their profits to employees as a purchasing power premium.

The salaries of civil servants are also expected to rise. He wants to continue the government-financed gas and electricity price caps.
