Frankfurt The public prosecutor’s office in Frankfurt is taking action against an investment banker from Perella Weinberg on suspicion of insider trading. According to financial circles, it is about a London employee of the investment company, who has since been furloughed.

The public prosecutor had already announced on Thursday that they were investigating five suspects for possible violations of the Securities Trading Act.

Specifically, she is investigating the suspicion that the investment banker passed on insider knowledge about imminent company takeovers in the years 2017 to 2021 to four accomplices. They would then have bought shares and derivatives of the companies concerned and thus achieved proceeds in the tens of millions.

The investigations were triggered by a report by the financial regulator Bafin, which noticed the suspicious transactions. The public prosecutor’s office, the Federal Criminal Police Office and the BaFin then searched several buildings in Frankfurt, Munich and the Munich area on January 17th and 18th.
