Oracle antagonizes customers

Dusseldorf Oracle has a dubious reputation among many customers. Although the IT group’s products are considered to be of high technical quality, there are always conflicts over pricing policy and contract design. Behind closed doors, some IT managers refer to the company as a legal department with attached software development.

Discontent is currently bubbling up again in many IT departments. The conflict is about the Java technology, which is central to the functioning of numerous online applications: The software manufacturer is forcing customers into a new licensing model that is intended to significantly simplify the calculation of fees, but is likely to cost most customers significantly more.

In a recently published study, the market research and consulting company Gartner calculates that the license is likely to become two to five times more expensive for many companies. According to estimates from industry circles, additional demands for large corporations can quickly amount to several million euros.
