Berlin Nursing staff in clinics and retirement homes could look forward to a corona bonus in 2020. Employees should receive up to 1,000 euros from the federal government and an additional 500 from the federal states – automatically paid by the employer.

In many cases, however, this never happened, as can be seen from a report by the Federal Court of Auditors in October, which is available to the Handelsblatt. The authority checked the payment at a total of 11,400 of the approximately 30,000 care facilities.

14.5 percent of them did not apply for a corona bonus. The rate was “significantly too high,” criticized the Federal Court of Auditors in the report. It is possible “that a significant number of employees” did not receive any bonus. Around 1.2 million people are employed in the industry.

In addition, “in the care sector in particular, owners of care facilities applied for federal funds for themselves.” Overall, the procedure was “prone to abuse and errors”, and the control options were “insufficient”. It is to be feared that the shortcomings in the payment of the care bonus will be repeated.
