Macron’s hidden election campaign has long since begun

Paris Emmanuel Macron is on many fronts these days: the French President is acting as a mediator in the Ukraine crisis, and he is traveling to Moscow and Kiev on Mondays and Tuesdays. In the European Union, he has set himself an ambitious agenda for the French EU Council Presidency in the first half of the year. In France, the head of state sees himself challenged in the fight against the pandemic.

On the other hand, Macron does not want to take on a role, at least officially: that of the election campaigner who is applying for a second term in two months.

The signals ahead of the first round of voting on April 10 are clear: at the beginning of the year, the President announced that he had a fundamental “desire” to stand again. In the background he has set up his campaign team, which is just waiting for the starting shot.
