Tesla’s Autopilot system will be investigated by the feds
US authorities have launched a federal investigation into Tesla to question the accuracy of claims it makes about the capabilities of its Autopilot and Fully Self-Driving systems.
The investigation was opened because Tesla claimed to have a fully autonomous system. It will be examined whether Tesla misled investors and consumers with this claim. It is stated that the US Department of Justice is also examining Elon Musk, with vague statements on this issue.
The investigation will be part of already ongoing investigations into Tesla’s autonomous driving systems. Last month, the US’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced that it would investigate Tesla regarding the recall of vehicles with Autopilot systems.
Tesla vehicles were previously recalled due to the increase in accidents involving vehicles with Autopilot system. The increasing number of these accidents has raised serious questions about the safety and effectiveness of Tesla’s autonomous driving technology. Additionally, it was confirmed in October last year that more information about Tesla’s autonomous driving features had been requested by the US Department of Justice.
