Long waiting times and extra costs – that’s what goes wrong at Lufthansa

It was a special moment for Lufthansa CEO Carsten Spohr when the British consulting firm Skytrax gave the Lufthansa core brand its fifth star in 2017. It was the long-awaited award for airlines with the highest quality standards.

No other European airline had done that before, only Asian ones. Lufthansa on an equal footing with Qatar Airways or the Lufthansa partner Singapore Airlines – that was something.

Until mid-2022, when Skytrax withdrew the fifth star from Lufthansa. Too much went wrong with the restart after the pandemic, the number of dissatisfied customers was too large.

You don’t need the fifth star, Premium can do without it, Spohr has since answered when asked if he wanted to get the star back, which was so important to him when Lufthansa still had it.
