Munich, Stuttgart, Berlin Neither mines, booby traps nor direct fire from small arms can pose a threat to Russian soldiers in “Typhoon-K”. The armored vehicle, which weighs more than 20 tons, belongs to a model family with which Russia has modernized its military vehicle fleet over the past decade. One of the leading manufacturers of these vehicles is Kamaz, the country’s largest truck manufacturer.
Kamaz is not only a close partner of the Russian armed forces, but also cooperates with a whole range of German automotive suppliers such as ZF and Knorr- Bremse when it comes to trucks and buses. The Stuttgart car manufacturer Mercedes-Benz even holds a 15 percent stake in Kamaz. In view of the Ukraine war, sharp criticism of the alliance is now burgeoning.
