Frankfurt Inflation in Germany rose more sharply in August than economists had assumed. Consumer prices increased by 7.9 percent compared to the previous year. This was announced by the Federal Statistical Office on Tuesday based on a preliminary estimate.

Economists polled by the Reuters news agency had expected inflation to rise by 7.8 percent. In July, the figure was 7.5 percent. In May, goods and services had already risen by 7.9 percent, the highest since the early 1970s.

And more and more experts are now expecting inflation to remain high for a long time to come. This would have significant consequences for the markets, interest rates and the economy as a whole.
