Berlin The federal government is setting up a task force to better coordinate the implementation of sanctions against Russian companies and oligarchs. A spokeswoman confirmed on Saturday that the federal government is currently establishing a task force to enforce sanctions. The “Spiegel” reported about it first.

In the past few days, the EU decided on an unprecedented package of sanctions against Russia and Belarus in response to Russia’s illegal war against Ukraine. “This must now be implemented without gaps.”

Representatives of numerous authorities and ministries should be involved in the working group. At the direct request of Chancellor Olaf Scholz, the Federal Chancellery is taking on a higher-level coordinating role. The task force will be headed by Jörg Kukies, State Secretary in the Chancellery.

The exact distribution of responsibilities and thus the leadership of the individual areas of sanctions is currently being determined between the departments, it said. The task force should also be the point of contact for international cooperation.

In Italy, authorities arrested another mega yacht owned by a Russian billionaire, the government in Rome confirmed on Saturday.
