What is AFAD?

AFAD is a disaster and emergency management institution that takes charge before and after natural disasters in our country. AFAD, which also operates abroad, was established in 2009 to replace the Ministry of Interior General Directorate of Civil Defense (SSGM) and the Ministry of Public Works and Settlement, the General Directorate of Disaster Affairs and the Prime Ministry General Directorate of Disaster and Emergency Management (TAY).

AFAD, which also played a role in the Kahramanmaraş earthquake that occurred recently and deeply affected 10 provinces, consists of volunteer personnel. These personnel receive some training at first in order to be able to work in the disaster area.
