Berlin Bread and rolls become more expensive as a result of the war. Small bakers in particular are struggling. Because personnel costs are also increasing. Bread is a special food. The announcement from the farmers’ association that a loaf could cost ten euros in the future was all the more frightening. How realistic is that? Questions to Daniel Schneider, General Manager of the Central Association of the German Bakery Trade.
From ranks of the farmers’ association it is said that because of the Ukraine war, bread could soon cost ten euros. Is that correct?
The farmers produce the wheat, the bakers bake the bread. It is the latter who have to calculate the prices based on their cost structure. The fact is that the war and its aftermath are driving up wheat prices, as both Russia and Ukraine are major wheat producers.
