Düsseldorf, Lyon Production at the Tesla plant in Grünheide should start in a few weeks. The Tesla boss Elon Musk announced last Saturday on a stage on site. Small downer: it will take some time for the factory to run at full speed. Only 10,000 vehicles are to be manufactured in Grünheide in 2022.
Quite little, given the total capacity of 500,000 pieces. Starting up a factory is complex and “super difficult,” as Musk says. In addition, the new battery factory is only just being built and will not be finished for a year. Until then, says the Tesla boss, the batteries will come from China.
So far, the vehicles for Europe have also come from Shanghai. Tesla has been importing the Model 3 from there since last year, and for a few weeks also the new crossover Model Y.
