Dusseldorf The applicant for the position as marketing manager seemed perfect: he had three years of professional experience with a direct competitor. But after the appointment, the anger increased: The new employee did his job poorly and did not know the simplest rules of the industry.

Finally, the HR department asked the competitor and was itself surprised by the answer: The new employee had not been employed there for three years as a marketing manager, but as an intern for three weeks. In his CV he had simply lied.

Anyone who writes an application is trying to sell themselves well. But many applicants apparently push the limits of what is permitted. In a survey by the resume website CVApp, almost 59 percent of the 3,000 respondents admitted to having written at least one untruth on their resume.
