Washington When Republican Kevin Stitt was elected governor of Oklahoma five years ago, the times were different: Donald Trump was president at the time, and Republicans considered government investments in green energies to be poison for the economy. A Republican state like Oklahoma is now benefiting from the billions in federal funding that was approved under Joe Biden.

In the Hamilton restaurant in Washington, within sight of the White House, 50-year-old Stitt raves about the opportunities presented by the American energy transition. For example, together with the southern states of Arkansas and Louisiana, Oklahoma has founded a hydrogen cluster worth billions. However, he was just turned down by a large German company: Volkswagen decided at short notice against Oklahoma when it was planning to build a new battery plant.
