Google Stadia is shutting down! Here is the date

Gamers have been divided between console and computer for a long time. But now there is a third option. We don’t need special consoles to play AAA quality games comfortably on all devices. We can use cloud gaming services instead. Google Stadia, one of the popular names in these services, is shutting down.

Google Stadia is shutting down! Here is the date

According to a blog post shared by Google today, Google Stadia is shutting down. It is stated that the platform will be closed as of January 18, 2023, accounts will be frozen and new membership applications will be removed. So why is Stadia shuttering?

In the past, many leaks have emerged that Google Stadia will be shut down. It was even said that the company will temporarily suspend this service and enter the market for the second time with a stronger force at a later date. Google quite flatly denied these claims. But what she said no yesterday, she had to say yes today.

Did not meet expectations! Epic Games has announced this week's free games!

Did not meet expectations! Epic Games has announced this week’s free games!

Epic Games continues to distribute free games. But the games shared this week did not satisfy the players with both price and quality.

In the statement made by Google as the reason for the shutdown, it is said that the platform has reached millions of people, but despite this, it has not received the desired attention. Of course, the biggest reason for not getting the expected interest is that there is a better alternative.

For example, NVIDIA’s growing cloud gaming service, GeForce Now, says that subscribers will only need to connect their Steam account and play the growing number of supported games.

On the other hand, Google also wants a separate version of each game developed for Stadia to be purchased. In other words, while you can play the game available in your library directly with GeForce Now, you have to open your mouth once again for Google Stadia. This being the case, the reason for the players’ indifference is quite understandable.

In the statement made by the company, it was said:

“Google has invested in various aspects of the gaming industry over many years. We help developers create and distribute game apps on Google Play and Google Play Games. Gaming creators reach audiences around the world on YouTube through videos, live streams and Short Films. And our cloud streaming technology delivers immersive gaming at massive scale.

A few years ago we also launched Stadia, a consumer gaming service. While Stadia’s approach to game streaming for consumers is built on a strong technology foundation, we made the difficult decision to begin discontinuing our Stadia streaming service because it didn’t receive the attention we expected from users.

We are grateful to the dedicated Stadia players who have been with us from the beginning. We will refund all Stadia hardware purchases made through the Google Store and all game and add-on content purchases made through the Stadia store. Players will continue to access their game library and play until January 18, 2023 so they can complete their last game session. We expect most refunds to be completed by mid-January 2023. More details for players on this process can be found in our Help Center.

The core technology platform that powers Stadia has proven itself at scale and goes beyond gaming. We see clear opportunities to apply this technology in other parts of Google such as YouTube, Google Play, and our Augmented Reality (AR) efforts, as well as bringing it to our industry partners in line with where we see the future of gaming. . We are deeply committed to gaming and will continue to invest in new tools, technologies and platforms that support the success of developers, industry partners, cloud customers and creators.

For the Stadia team, building and supporting Stadia from the ground up is fueled by the same passion for gaming our players have. Most Stadia team members will move this work forward in other parts of the company. We are very grateful for the team’s groundbreaking work and look forward to continuing to make an impact on the gaming and other industries using core Stadia streaming technology.”
