What does he think of tokens like Dogecoin (DOGE) and other meme coin-based tokens such as Shiba Inu (SHIB)?
They have the value of being good fun. It is valuable if people love it. I find this amusing and useful in a speculative setting. You don’t want every serious token to be highly speculative and have such volatility. But as long as the user understands what they’re buying and getting into, it’s fine. I think projects like SHIB label themselves as meme coin and not serious stuff. It’s been both good and bad in the crypto business. Today, the main trend is definitely that people take advantage of an unregulated space. They widen the gap between regulators and the free market.
I don’t position myself here and I like to be agnostic, but I certainly don’t want my industry to make consumers believe the wrong things. That’s not what these meme coins do. They could do a better job of clarifying the high risk and lack of scientific basis behind these tokens. I can’t say they’re under active development, and I hope I’m not hurting anyone working at Coinbase. They have a purpose: to gamble on Binance on Saturday night. We have nothing else to name it. It’s just pure gambling. You may enjoy gambling on an exchange more than at a poker table. But they are not very different and the probabilities are almost the same.
Which projects do you respect the most in the crypto industry?
I respect projects with active developers, people taking an alternative path. I don’t believe there is a magic white paper. I believe there are teams that need to communicate with each other and embrace these innovations in Blockchain, either through universities or through white papers circulating on the internet. For example, Solana is not verified. I think it needs some maturity for us to see if this is really a new, innovative breakthrough.
I would say that every team should consider integrating the benefits it brings and the technological advancement. For example, the capacity to innovate is key, and innovation is changing and integrating your roadmap so that you understand that you might be wrong or there might be a better model and not destroy your ecosystem. But companies are trying to survive by having the best technological vision and the ability to integrate it. This is where I put my money, and that’s the challenge every engineer faces.
What’s in the crypto portfolio? Bitcoin’s price in early 2022 What’s your guess about it?
I have Cardano (ADA), Solana (SOL), Ethereum (ETH) and Polkadot (DOT) in the crypto portfolio. I believe in what Polkadot built. I don’t find it extremely original, but I’d say it’s a good foundation to build on as it’s a clean design.
This is a very short time. But I can say this, I think Bitcoin (BTC) will be between $ 50 and $ 60 thousand.
