Hamburg United Internet founder Ralph Dommermuth has had a difficult few months. His company 1&1 is far behind plan and promises when it comes to building its own 5G mobile network. Instead of more than 1000, Dommermuth could only show 20 activated radio stations by the beginning of May. Because he therefore violated the conditions from the most recent 5G frequency auction, the Federal Network Agency initiated fine proceedings against 1&1 in April – for the first time in its history.

Research by the Handelsblatt now shows that Dommermuth’s deficit is even greater than known. 1&1 not only fell far short of the requirements of the Federal Network Agency from the 5G auction in 2019, but has also not yet complied with the expansion specifications from the contracts for the 2018 mobile communications summit.
