Europe and USA forge LNG pact

Berlin, Brussels, Dusseldorf, Rome Historic summit day in Brussels: First, the heads of state and government of NATO met on Thursday, followed by a round of meetings among the major industrialized countries (G7), followed in the evening by an EU summit. Protagonist at all three meetings: Joe Biden.

The US President discussed with his partners from the EU, Canada and Japan the military strengthening of NATO and further sanctions against Russia – and he brought a long-awaited promise to the Europeans: the USA is forging an energy pact with the EU to Reduce dependence on Russian gas. Biden and EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen want to announce the agreement on Friday.

The Handelsblatt learned from EU diplomats that it contained firm delivery commitments for liquefied natural gas (LNG). The energy pact should cover a considerable volume, and that over several years.
