EU wants to regulate AI: Is ChatGPT a “high-risk technology”?

Dusseldorf Since the release of the third version of ChatGPT, the reports about the almost endless possibilities that the new generation of artificial intelligence (AI) is supposed to open up have been pouring in. But in the meantime, the risks are also moving more into focus. The question is what the legal guard rails for the use of AI could look like.

A debate on AI regulation began in the EU Parliament on Monday, which could have far-reaching consequences for the industry. Because the parliamentarians are considering classifying generative AI such as ChatGPT as “high-risk technology”. For companies, this could mean, for example, that they have to disclose the data sources that feed their AI. “It is not unlikely that many companies will follow the rules of the EU,” says Brussels correspondent Carsten Volkery. Otherwise they risk losing access to the solvent EU market.
