ETFs in times of crisis and war

Dusseldorf In crisis situations, inexperienced investors are often guided by fear. This can lead to buying or selling decisions that later turn out to be unwise. ETF expert Gerd Kommer, head of asset management Gerd Kommer Invest, advises a classic buy-and-hold strategy in the current situation. From his point of view, selling would be the worst possible decision.

Historically, setbacks on the stock exchanges in times of armed conflict and war have always been followed by recoveries after a few weeks, said Kommer in an interview with the Handelsblatt Today. In particular, investors with diversified portfolios would have benefited in times of crisis if they did not sell their holdings.

Jan Altmann, who has been dealing with ETFs for almost 20 years, also sees such a scenario as a potential opportunity to buy more. However, the senior ETF analyst at the justETF information portal advises sticking with the strategy that was developed before the crisis and filling up your own portfolio in this way. Determining the perfect time is almost impossible.

You can find out what else ETF investors should consider in view of the current uncertainty in the entire interview with Gerd Kommer and Jan Altmann.
