Energy transition as a solution if Russia fails? an illusion

The energy supply crisis is showing Germany and large parts of Europe mercilessly how dependent they are on supplies from abroad. And this is by no means limited to natural gas. The same applies to crude oil and hard coal: almost nothing works without foreign suppliers. One of the most important so far has been Russia. That has to change abruptly now.

The debate on how to fill the resulting gaps is in full swing. There are no satisfactory solutions.

This is taking revenge for the fact that Germany has long indulged in the illusion that renewable energies are well on the way to becoming guarantors of inexpensive, reliable and climate-friendly full supply.

Two numbers are enough to expose this as a mistake: 16 percent of German primary energy consumption last year came from renewable sources. 84 percent still have to be replaced.
