Dusseldorf The 43 million motorists in Germany have to dig deep into their pockets: in mid-March, a liter of premium petrol cost more than 2.20 euros. At the beginning of the year, the fuel was still available for 1.65 euros. Why is that? And will we soon even have to pay three euros for it?

Politicians are currently discussing various measures to counteract the high energy costs – from mobility allowances to fuel discounts.
