Do those infected with Omicron have to reckon with more long-term consequences?

Berlin With the appearance of the omicron variant, the number of infections has risen to record highs. The World Health Organization assumes that every second person will be infected with the corona virus in the next six to eight weeks.

People who have been vaccinated several times can hope for a mild course of the disease. The question remains, however, what about possible long-term consequences – especially with the phenomenon Long Covid.

Will the spread of Long Covid also increase with the omicron variant?

The omicron variant can evade the immune system to some extent, which is why it spreads very quickly, even among vaccinated people. The severity of omicron infection appears to average between that of the alpha and delta variants. In no way does this make Omikron harmless. No reliable statements can be made about the probability of developing symptoms of Long Covid after an infection with Omikron, because there is too little data.
