Krefeld The promise made by DB long-distance director Michael Peterson weighs heavily. “If the train doesn’t come on time,” he announced the completely revised ICE 3neo on Monday, “it’s not because of this train.” The supplier Siemens Mobility had a development time of just two and a half years – and thus in half the usual time – “Visions transformed into trains”.

The Berlin state-owned company is now taking the success of the first ten train sets that the Krefeld plant has delivered since December 2022 as an opportunity to increase the number of orders to 90 – at a total price of three billion euros. 30 ICE 3neo trains alone are scheduled to run on Germany’s tracks by the end of 2023, with the last delivery scheduled for October 2028.
