Corona mutation causes economic fears

Cape Town Again on the hated travel ban lists: South Africa’s travel industry reacts indignantly and resignedly to the international isolation because of the new virus variant through entry bans from South Africa and five neighboring countries. The “Association of Southern African Travel Agents” (ASATA) spoke of a “panic reaction” and pointed out that new variants were constantly being discovered, many of which often turned out to be harmless. One is confident that this will now also be the case again.

The new South African Minister of Health, Joe Phaahla, describes the situation as “seriously worrying”. He blames the new corona variant with the code “B.1.1.529” for a sudden sharp increase in infections in the greater Johannesburg area in the past ten days – after only extremely few positive tests had been recorded at the Cape for months.
