Climate activists from the “Last Generation” group blocked runways at Munich and Berlin-Brandenburg airports on Thursday morning. In Munich, the police ended the action on one of the two runway ends after about an hour, said an airport spokesman. According to the operator, an almost simultaneous action at Berlin-Brandenburg Airport had no effect on flight operations.
In Munich, the northern runway of the airport was closed after activists entered the site. Air traffic was able to be diverted to the southern runway, so that there were no failures and only minor delays, said an airport spokesman. Flight operations are running again without restrictions. The police in Upper Bavaria announced on Twitter that the meeting at Munich Airport had been broken up and the activists had been taken into custody.
According to their own statements, the federal police have already ended the operation against climate activists at the capital’s BER airport and have removed demonstrators who were stuck from the runway. Two climate activists had previously gained access to the security area of the airport and got onto the tarmac. They would have stuck there. Six other climate activists did not get to the airport site.
“We reacted quickly,” said the spokeswoman for the federal police. Since the last incident at BER Airport, the forces have been increased. On November 24, the climate activists paralyzed flight operations at Berlin Airport for almost two hours.

The “Last Generation”
The group “Last Generation” was responsible for the action on Thursday. The activists explained that they were directly opposing a highly state-subsidized co-causer of the climate catastrophe. “We are always ready for constructive talks, like yesterday with the Bavarian Minister of the Interior (Joachim Herrmann). But what we need in the face of the looming climate hell is action and not just empty words,” said a spokeswoman for “Last Generation”.
The group, which recently also frequently blocked roads in Munich and Berlin, demands better climate protection from the federal government and demands, among other things, a speed limit of 100 kilometers per hour on motorways and a 9-euro train ticket for the whole of Germany.
