new York Coughing, Shane Johnson stands in front of the skyscraper called “Grand Tier”, one of his most recent projects. The location is captivating: right across the street is Lincoln Center, which is home to the famous Metropolitan Opera and the New York Philharmonic.

Johnson points to a duct on the wall: “This is the pipe that used to take the exhaust fumes straight up the stack and out into the air.” But Johnson has a better solution.

The air is bad in Manhattan – an almost symbolic fact for this on-site visit. It’s June 7th, the day New York is engulfed in yellow smoke from the wildfires in Canada. The trees are burning, also because the heat waves in North America have recently increased due to climate change. They increase the probability and intensity of forest fires.
