Berlin With a view to the spreading new Corona variant Omikron, the calls for further measures by the traffic light government are getting louder. “The traffic light must now define a prudent course for the turn of the year”, demanded the health policy spokesman for the Union, Tino Sorge (CDU), in the Handelsblatt.
“If Omikron is as dangerous as feared, the previous protective measures will not be sufficient.” Then new restrictions would have to be discussed in various areas of life: “In schools, in public spaces, unfortunately even in private surroundings – as painful as that is.” A prime ministerial conference before Christmas would also be important now.
Baden-Württemberg’s Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann (Greens) also said that an early federal-state conference could be necessary: ”If the Omikron wave starts up in the old year, we have to consult quickly.”
