Boss Volker Jung on the reasons for the insolvency

Dusseldorf The head of the insolvent toilet paper manufacturer Hakle also blames the delayed payment of state aid for his bankruptcy filing. “If we had received state aid faster, we would not be insolvent now,” said owner Volker Jung of the Handelsblatt. “We’re talking about a seven-figure amount that we would have been entitled to – and that we urgently needed to finance our energy costs.”

The production of toilet paper is considered to be energy-intensive. The state had promised to support companies like Hakle with the Energy Cost Containment Program (EKDP). By his own admission, Hakle submitted an application on July 18. “We asked about it in mid-August. The responsible office said that they still had to set up the IT system for this,” says Jung. “We didn’t see a dime until the bankruptcy filing, now we are no longer entitled to receive it.”
