Recently, the rapid development in the digital world has increased the need for software and programming. Many important companies all over the world continue to seek qualified personnel to meet this need. Turkey is one of the countries that raise important names in this field, but the results are not quite as we would like.
YASAD President: “30 thousand software developers went abroad in 2021”
Gönül Kamalı, President of the Software Manufacturers Association (YASAD), explained some data about the software world in an interview with Bloomberg. Pointing out that the pool of software developers in our country is large, Kamali said that the labor shortage in Europe is met from other countries.
On the other hand, Kamali shared some data on brain drain. Stating that programmers in Turkey are heading abroad, Kamali said that in 2021, 30 thousand software citizens went abroad. She said that if this trend continues, this number could rise to 100,000.
YASAD President gave the following statements in his interview;
While a software company in Turkey cannot find the financial power to employ a newly graduated software developer for a thousand dollars, offers to our software developers from the USA and Europe start from at least 2 thousand 500 dollars. It is not possible for us to sustain this competition on TL basis.
According to Kamali, there are other reasons for this as well. He mentioned that although the need for software in Turkey has grown by 20 percent, the increase in software developers has remained around 10 percent. Stating that this situation creates pressure, Kamali cited long working hours as another reason.
