Earlier this week, Malmi revealed these personal communications with Nakamoto. He made it public amid a legal battle in the UK over the true identity of Bitcoin’s creator. The lawsuit aims to prevent patent litigation and ensure open access to patented crypto technologies. Specifically, it involves the Crypto Open Patent Alliance (COPA), a consortium of companies in the crypto industry.
They dispute the claims of Australian computer scientist Craig Wright, who controversially claimed to be Nakamoto, the pseudonymous individual or group credited with creating Bitcoin and laying the foundation for blockchain technology.
Ripple has praise
In particular, the correspondence between Nakamoto and Malmi covered various BTC-related topics, such as the inflation schedule, total coin supply, “denominations” and the concept of fractional Bitcoin. Nakamoto provided information about Bitcoin’s scalability and ability to process large numbers of transactions instantly without the need for transaction fees.
During their discussion, Malmi introduced the topic of Ripple, considering it a potentially groundbreaking project. Malmi talked about his initial involvement in the project. Starting out as a novice developer in college in 2009, Malmi quickly became an influential figure in Bitcoin’s formative years. He was the only active developer to work closely with Satoshi, developing a relationship bordering on friendship.
This connection led Satoshi to grant administrative privileges to Malmi on the Bitcoin.org website. Additionally, Malmi’s contributions to the second version of the Bitcoin code were significant. But after a few years, Malmi came to believe that Bitcoin had matured beyond his need. Moreover, inspired by Satoshi’s departure, he decided to move away from the project.
