Frankfurt In Germany, online casinos are actually illegal. The only exception: Schleswig-Holstein. The licenses that were issued there actually only apply to offers to residents of the northernmost state, but nobody really seems to care. Providers such as Hyperino, Unibet, Drückglück or Pokerstars advertise nationwide on TV, on the Internet or in sports stadiums. Although there is usually a small reference to Schleswig-Holstein, most players ignore it and many have no idea that it is illegal.
The operators are happy: Germany is an important market. According to data from the Joint Gaming Office, they earn almost half a billion euros a year. Your gain is the players’ loss. Or not?
