Apple announced the second generation HomePod, the new version of the full-size HomePod model, which was discontinued two years ago. The design of the new HomePod is quite similar to the previous generation model. But the biggest change is that the touchpad on the top of the HomePod is now fully enlarged, similar to the HomePod mini.
The second-generation HomePod is available in two color options, white and midnight. The midnight color is pretty similar to the previous space gray color, but Apple states that it’s “a new color made from 100 percent recycled knit fabric with a color-matched woven power cord.”

In terms of specs, the new HomePod has five tweeters instead of the seven tweeters on the original full-size HomePod. It’s also powered by the S7 chip, compared to the A8 chip in the original HomePod and the S5 chip in the HomePod mini. The microphone array has also been reduced from six to four microphones.
Apple also added the U1 chip to the full-size HomePod for the first time. This chip is used for more advanced and reliable Handoff features when streaming music from iPhone to HomePod.
To sum it up, Apple’s second-generation HomePod offers a number of advanced features despite having a similar design to its predecessor. The new HomePod aims to meet the expectations of users with features such as smart home integration, temperature and humidity sensors.
