Apple’s home and car keys, wallet, etc. AirTag device, which was launched for the safety of your personal belongings, is making a name for itself on much more important issues these days. The device, which prevented a robbery in the past days, became the hero of an important fraud story, including Turkey.
AirTag proves that Turkish aid donations do not reach earthquake victims
A Mexican journalist named Pamela Cerdeira brought to light the story of the fraud involving AirTag and Turkey. A helping hand was extended from many parts of the world for the great earthquake that Turkey experienced on February 6th. However, some opportunists abused this issue.
According to the video, Pamela Cerdeira used AirTags to prove that the government mishandled earthquake relief donations. Cerdeira put an AirTag inside the aid box containing rice and a pack of toilet paper to check if the aid reached Turkey. The journalist saw that the parcel never left Mexico, let alone come to Turkey.
Cerdeira argued that her materials were sold in a market within the country. Speaking on the subject, a government official said that the sale of the products was not within the government’s knowledge, and that the aid parcels might have been stolen.
On the other hand, this is not the first scam story AirTag has proven. Recently, a man living in Chicago loaded a large amount of cash into an armored truck to be transported somewhere. And then he set off. According to the information that emerged, the owner of the money, which was 1.1 million dollars, placed AirTags inside the money boxes while loading the money on the armored truck and started to track the money via AirTag.
The robbers, who were stated to be two people, reserved several money boxes for themselves during the transfer of the money. And then he fled the scene. After giving all this information to the police, the people who stole the money were caught red-handed and detained. According to the first information, individuals stole at least 300 thousand dollars. The stolen money and AirTags were returned to the owner.
