Age Limit for TikTok Content

Controversial social media platform TikTok made a statement last February and announced that a content level system was prepared to prevent posts with certain content from appearing in front of young people. Now the details of the system are starting to become clear.

According to the information received, a classification method similar to what we see in games, movies and television will be used on the social media platform. Content tagged “adult” accordingly under certain age will not appear in front of young people. The company recently paved the way for +18 content.

TikTok will do the rating

On the other hand, TikTok will be the decision maker on the evaluation and classification of the content. Statement from the company “When we notice that content contains adult or complex themes, such as a fictional scene that is too scary or too passionate for younger audiences, the video will be given an adult rating so that it can be viewed by users under 18 years of age. TikTok will be prevented from being seen in the experience” it was said. In other words, the TikTok algorithm will look at the video, paste a tag it deems appropriate, and this tag will affect the viewing of the videos.

On the other hand, in the statement from the platform, it was not specified how the adult scores would be determined, according to which criteria the content would be evaluated, or what kind of content the videos should have in order to pass inspection. The platform also currently has this feature. from early versions stated that one of them is being used and that it is expected to gain new features in the future. The company has previously announced that it is working on a feature that will allow users to choose what content they see.

TikTok is also working on the For You page. With the new update, the page will be prevented from showing the same videos all the time. Also have tags you don’t want to see contents you also block it’s going to be possible. This update will come in the coming weeks.
