Berlin Federal Transport Minister Volker Wissing (FDP) violates the requirements of the Climate Protection Act. This is the conclusion reached by the scientific service of the Bundestag in a report. It is available from the Handelsblatt.
According to the law, Germany wants to reduce its emissions by 65 percent by 2030 compared to 1990 and be climate-neutral by 2045. The Greens and FDP have been arguing about how to get there for months.
The question is what will happen if Germany does not achieve its climate targets in individual areas in a year. In 2021, for example, the transport sector missed its statutory targets by three million tons.
According to the law, the responsible minister must submit an immediate program with measures within a few months “that will ensure compliance with the annual emission levels of the sector for the following years”. Greens and FDP interpret the sentence differently.
