Zoff over US subsidies for electric cars: is the EU backlash coming?

Paris, Brussels, Washington, Dusseldorf The dispute over subsidies for US industry threatens to escalate. France calls on the European Union to resist. “We have to react quickly,” said French Finance and Economics Minister Bruno Le Maire in an interview with Handelsblatt and three other European newspapers. “I demand a coordinated, united and strong response to our American allies.”

The background to the dispute is the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) signed by US President Joe Biden in mid-August. The US government is supporting the domestic industry in the field of climate-neutral technologies with 400 billion dollars – including battery technology in particular.
