Washington US President Joe Biden has pledged further support for Ukraine in its defense against Russia. “We will continue to strengthen Ukraine’s ability to defend itself, especially air defense, and therefore we will provide Ukraine with Patriot missile batteries,” Biden said Wednesday during a visit to the Oval Office in Washington by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. His message to the guest: “President Zelensky, the United States stands behind the brave people of Ukraine.”

The 44-year-old President of Ukraine thanked “from the bottom of my heart” for the support of the United States. Ukraine is in a good situation on the battlefield “because of your support”. The talks with Biden will also include the energy crisis in his country.

Earlier, Zelensky said his visit to Washington was intended to further strengthen and support his military in the war with Russia. “I’m in Washington today to thank the American people, the President and Congress for their much-needed support. And also to continue cooperation and bring our victory closer,” Zelensky wrote in the Telegram news service.

This is Zelensky’s first known trip abroad since the beginning of the Russian war of aggression in February. Even before his visit, the United States approved the delivery of new Patriot anti-aircraft systems. The US is Kiev’s most important ally in the defensive struggle against the aggressor Russia.

Since President Joe Biden took office in January 2021, the US has provided $21.9 billion in military aid to Ukraine.
