X sponsored-ad posts are not moderated!

Twitter, which was purchased by Elon Musk in recent years, was later named X with the vision of becoming a more inclusive platform. But besides this vision, Musk’s mission to regain the fortune he spent on the acquisition continues. So much so that sponsored ads on the X platform now open the door to fraudsters.

We can see many advertising contents on social media platforms. Although these vary depending on the platform, sometimes they may be Google ads, and sometimes they may be ads shared through the site and application.

Although the platforms say that they control these ads, we see that these controls are not that strict and any fraudster can share the content he wants by paying the money here.

As a matter of fact, in this example, we see that more than one account on X made sponsored posts with montage visuals implying that journalist Fatih Altaylı was arrested. But it doesn’t stop there. Just below the post Source There is a link and name of a site on plants called gardenssweet.

X sponsored ad

However, when you click on the link or share, a completely different site opens instead of this one. Here, it can be seen that a news site with the Mynet logo has been opened. Yes, there is a logo in the upper left and there is clickbait content in the middle that has nothing to do with the X post, but this is also fake.

When you look at the address bar above, you see that you are not actually on Mynet. In fact, when you click on the Mynet logo, another site with the Trader AI logo opens. But this is another cloned fake interface. We can understand this by looking at the domain again.

So, while you’re browsing on sponsored A post that you click on without seeing what it says or that you click on by relying on the control of the X platform can take you to a completely different place.

So, what do they aim to achieve by attracting traffic with these front sites? Why are they advertising on X?

First of all, anyone who wants can drive traffic to their website with this type of advertising. But this is not their main purpose. Even though they used Mynet in the example here, they are actually imitating many companies, sites and applications that you trust and know.

In fact, since you are a member of many of them, you want to log in without hesitation and they steal your information. Or they may direct you to download their applications and download infected files that will steal all your data. In its most innocent form, they capture your name, surname, e-mail address and phone number on a site like the one you see above.

We guess that you have come across these types of posts on many platforms, from X to Instagram and Facebook. Because sponsored advertising posts have been controlled at the same level for a long time. So why don’t Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg prevent this?

Actually it is passing. If you pay the money and become a Premium subscriber, you will not see sponsored-advertising posts on X and Instagram. However, if you do not pay, you will continue to be exposed to the posts of all kinds of scammers and malicious people. Therefore, you should be careful about the links you click and only share your personal information with reliable sources.
