A new exciting wait begins among Dune fans, as it has been announced that Dune 3 is officially in development. This third film, in which Denis Villeneuve will be the director, was announced after the great success of Dune 2.

Dune 2 surpassed the success of the first film, grossing over $600 million at the box office, paving the way for a third film. A third film is in development to be directed by Denis Villeneuve, production company Legendary has confirmed. Dune 3 will be adapted from Frank Herbert’s novel Dune: Messiah.
Villeneuve, “There is definitely a desire for a third movie, but I don’t want to rush it.” He made the statement. “The danger in Hollywood is that people get excited and only care about release dates, not quality” he added. The director has stated that Messiah will likely be the last film in the franchise.
Details about the film are not yet clear, but it is estimated that actors such as Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Javier Bardem, Florence Pugh and Josh Brolin will return. Additionally, Anya Taylor-Joy is likely to appear in the film as Alia Atreides.
Dune 3’s potential release date has yet to be officially announced, but it may not be as soon as expected. Dune Messiah takes place 12 years after the original book. Villeneuve stated in his statement in March 2022, “I want to do the second part as quickly as possible, then I will wait a few years.”

If Dune 2 had been released on its original date, there would have been 2 years between it and the first movie. Considering that there is a 5-month delay, 2026 seems like a possible release date for Dune 3.
