Berlin The wolf crosses the meadow with a gentle step and approaches a river. At a flat spot, he carefully steps into the water. He’s already gripping. The victim, a fish, has no chance of escaping. This scene can be seen on YouTube.

The pictures were taken in Voyageurs National Park in the US state of Minnesota – by a fully automatic camera attached to the wolf’s neck. It was manufactured by the Berlin company Vectronic-Aerospace.

The American research project “Voyageurs Wolf Project”, which published the spectacular hunting scene, is one of the long-standing customers of the medium-sized specialist company based in Adlershof. Vectronic-Aerospace is one of the global market leaders in the field of technology-based wildlife observation.

The collar camera is a comparatively new product, says Alexander Hecht, who is responsible for customer care at Vectronic-Aerospace. Other measuring devices are also used in research in Germany, for example for wolf monitoring in Lusatia.
