Without a booster, employees are threatened with loss of earnings

Employees and the self-employed can lose their entitlement to compensation for loss of earnings if they do not have full vaccination protection through a third corona vaccination and have to go into quarantine. This is the result of an expert report by the Bundestag’s scientific services, which the Bundestag published on the Internet and which the “Bild” newspaper first reported on.

In the federal government, however, there is still disagreement about this interpretation. If possible, the booster should not be a prerequisite for compensation. However, this still needs to be clarified.

Actually, the Infection Protection Act grants people who are infected or suspected of being infected and who are therefore prohibited from exercising their previous employment a right to compensation. The Bundestag services point out that according to the law, compensation is no longer available if such a ban could have been avoided by taking advantage of a vaccination. The lack of a booster or booster vaccination can also lead to the exclusion of compensation for loss of earnings if it is a publicly recommended vaccination.

Now it is up to the state health authorities

The Standing Vaccination Commission recommends a Covid 19 booster vaccination, as the parliamentary experts explain. However, according to their “brief information”, it still depends on the federal states: only when the highest state health authorities issue a public recommendation for booster vaccinations based on the recommendation of the vaccination commission is it a publicly recommended protective vaccination within the meaning of the Infection Protection Act. The two-page report does not contain an overview of the recommendations of the state health authorities.

Meanwhile, the number of daily corona vaccinations has decreased compared to the previous week. On Wednesday it was around 610,000 doses of vaccine administered, according to data from the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) on Thursday. At least 75.3 percent of the population (62.6 million people) have received a first dose of the vaccine. The federal government is aiming for 80 percent of those who have been vaccinated for the first time by the end of January. 48.9 percent of the population (40.7 million people) received an additional booster vaccination.

The RKI also reported 133,000 new infections within one day on Thursday. The day before, the threshold of 100,000 reported new infections had been exceeded for the first time. The seven-day incidence also rose above 600 for the first time – the value was 638.8 registered new infections per 100,000 inhabitants within one week.

Health Minister Karl Lauterbach (SPD) assumes “that the wave will peak around mid-February and that we will then have to expect several hundred thousand cases per day”. But it was not said that the scenarios would come about, he said on ZDF.
