Berlin “Ping!” my cell phone goes, and I look at the photo my date sent me: Flat bicycle tire, a screw is still in it. I type on my cell phone to see if it’s just the tire that’s “broken” or if the rim is also damaged. And that’s when I realize again what has been bothering me about my smartphone for a long time: it doesn’t let me swear properly. “Ass” shows as wrong. Great, if swearing, then with correct spelling? The alternative suggestions are “quick” or “harsh”. Stupid shit.
I keep typing. A similar problem with my typo “shit”: No suggestion that I could have meant “shit”. But if I long-press the “s” and select “ß”, the shit emoji pops up immediately. So the keyboard is really smart. Doesn’t my cell phone want to let me swear while writing? Who and what is behind it?
