EU ahead of G20 meeting: Insist on condemning Russia’s war

EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell is demanding that the G20 foreign ministers condemn Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine at their forthcoming meeting under the Indian presidency. “I am sure that the ability of Indian diplomacy will be used to make it clear to Russia that this war must end,” Borrell said on Wednesday, adding: “This war must be condemned.” European Union diplomatic circles said , a statement by the 20 leading industrial and emerging countries would only be supported if the war were condemned.

Russia is also part of the G20, and Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will attend the meeting in India. US Department Head Antony Blinken and Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang are also expected. The Russian Embassy in New Delhi said it intends to speak “firmly and frankly about the causes and instigators of the current serious problems in world politics and the global economy” at the meeting. “The destructive policies of the US and its allies have already brought the world to the brink of disaster.
