Why was access to Twitter and TikTok blocked?

While wondering why the access restriction was imposed on Twitter and TikTok, new information also emerged. Accordingly, a very important meeting was held between the senior executives of BTK and Twitter. He made a public statement about the meeting, which was stated to have lasted quite a long time and very important issues were discussed.

Turkey reminded Twitter of its responsibilities

Ömer Fatih Sayan, Deputy Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, held a meeting with Twitter Head of Global Government Relations John Hughes and Twitter Turkey Director of Public Policy Ronan Costello.

In the meeting, which was held via videoconferencing, steps that can be taken against disinformation carried out on Twitter, as well as false reports, fake aid campaigns, fake accounts and false posts were discussed.

At the meeting, it was pointed out that Twitter’s responsibilities against disinformation that may lead the society to panic and chaos. Also at the meeting, Turkey reminded the Twitter management of its obligations under the Law on Combating Crimes Committed on the Internet, particularly active cooperation to prevent disinformation in social media.
