Why the Japanese Yen is so weak right now

The currency has been under pressure on the foreign exchange market for months, although inflation in Japan is comparatively low.

Frankfurt Compared to Germany and other parts of the world, inflation in Japan is very low. It was 2.1 percent in April. This is the highest level in seven years. In the same month, however, prices in the euro area rose by 7.4 percent compared to the previous year and in the USA by 8.3 percent.

So the purchasing power of the Japanese currency remains relatively stable. Nevertheless, it has been under considerable pressure on the foreign exchange market for months. Since the beginning of the year, the yen has lost more than four percent against the euro – and around eleven percent against the US dollar.
