Dusseldorf Whether tomatoes, soybeans, rice or mustard seed – pretty much all ingredients for food products from the Unilever group have become significantly more expensive. “We have massive additional costs – also for energy,” explains Hanneke Faber, head of the global food division of the British group, in an interview with the Handelsblatt. Consumers also notice this on the supermarket shelf.
The division increased prices by almost eleven percent on average in 2022. But that was not enough to cover the higher costs. The consequences of inflation: Consumers around the world bought fewer Unilever products, which in Germany include brands such as Knorr, Pfanni, Mondamin and Hellmann’s.
