TAI ANKA-3 made its first flight!
Yesterday was a special day for TAI, one of Turkey’s important defense industry companies. The company sent the unmanned aerial vehicle ANKA-3, which it has been working on for a long time, on its first flight. The first flight of ANKA-3, the third member of the brand’s unmanned aerial vehicle family, lasted 1 hour and 10 minutes. Details of the flight were shared by TAI and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
ANKA-3, which left the runway yesterday, December 28, 2023 at 08.38 in the morning, returned home at 09.48 after a 1 hour and 10 minute flight. This special flight was accompanied by the HÜRKUŞ Basic Training and Light Attack Aircraft developed by TAI.

In its first test flight, ANKA-3 rose to an altitude of 8 thousand feet and reached a speed of approximately 150 knots. In addition, it successfully completed the runway passing test. ANKA-3, one of the new generation UAV systems, also has the nickname “ghost plane”. It will take part in many different missions such as reconnaissance, surveillance, intelligence, air-ground attack, air-air attack.
Why didn’t he close the landing gear?
There is misinformation about the issue circulating on social media. ANKA-3 is essentially an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle. It is wrong to call it a plane exactly, but it is true that it is a ghost. So what exactly does this mean? That is, ANKA-3 can fly above you like a ghost and cannot be detected by any radar. Of course, it owes this to the special paint on its body, its design and the fact that it hides its special equipment such as landing gear. The landing gear was not closed during the test flight.
Of course, this brings to mind, “Isn’t it a ghost plane?” brought the question. However, the situation is not as it seems. During test flights, equipment such as “landing gear” is not closed for safety reasons. For this reason, ANKA-3 made its flight without closing its suits. In other words, the UAV has special compartments in the fuselage to collect the landing gear.
